Brian Cassey: Bush Races
The traditional Australian bush race meeting is dying.
However, the small north Queensland town of Almaden, population 30, has re-invented it's race weekend after several years in the wilderness.
Punters bid for the horses in each race at auction with the race winner taking the pot. "Fashions on the Field" for women, men and children are also an integral part of the event.
The iron grand stand and stewards finish box date back to the original races many decades ago.
