Dean Lewins: Eyre by AIr

An aerial view of Lake Eyre in central Australia

Lake Eyre is the lowest point in Australia, at approximately 15 metres below sea level, and, on the rare occasions that it fills, it is the largest lake in Australia. Lake Eyre is situated almost 700 klms North of Adelaide in central Australia. Flood waters, from heavy rains almost 18 months ago from the Northern Territory and Queensland have finally started to make their way into the lake slowly filling it for the first time in 20 years. Recent flooding in Queensland and the effects from Cyclone Yasi have also begun to flow into Lake Eyre and will fill the lake to almost capacity.
