Dean Lewins: On The Trail for AAP

The 2010 Federal Election campaign was reported as one of the most stage-managed and mundane campaigns in history. With the exception being, the end result, a hung parliment.

As the two major parties leaders, Opposition leader Tony Abbott and Prime Minister Julia Gillard criss-crossed the country at a gruelling pace all the while pursued by the travelling media pack assigned to cover their every move. Well, their every move that they wanted the public to see. Countless hours were spent on planes and buses; catching up on sleep, enjoying a laugh or just gazing out the window as the world passed by, in order to get to the next stage-managed media opportunity.

These images - taken on assignment for AAP - are a glimpse of 5 weeks on the campaign trail with Opposition leader Tony Abbott.
