Kolkata or Calcutta in West Bengal, India is famous for its teeming masses numbering well over 15 million people. But within this heaving population people go about their daily lives in little pockets of personal serenity. Whether it is the idol makers of Kumartuli by the banks of the Hooghly River, tailors plying their trade in bolt hole shops or folks simply having a wash or a shave, a bit of personal space is a necessityin this vibrant, historic city that was once the capital of British India.
