Kelly Barnes: Japan Earthquake and Tsunami 2011

On the 11th of March 2011 a powerful 9.0 magnitude earthquake struck Japan and triggered a series of devastating tsunami waves that swept away houses, cars, boats and people along the eastern coast.

Many thousands of people are dead or missing while hundreds of thousands have been displaced from their homes and taken to evacuation facilities.

The Tsunami also caused extensive damage to the Fukushima nuclear power plant which sparked fears of a meltdown and radiation leakage..

Kelly Barnes was assigned to cover the devastation and recovery by The Australian and News Ltd.
