Tracey Nearmy: Long Neck
The Tong Lhoung Village in the Maeram subdistrict near Chiang Mai in Thailand has a mix of ethnic groups such as Karen, Lisu and Lahu. After being removed from the forest areas by the Thai government they now live live in a tourist village.
Many of the tourist villages, which have been criticized for being human zoos, display the long-neck women in an "authentic village" setting. The people living in the villages are often refugees who are exploited by local Thai authorities and unable to leave.
